Youth Coaching

Smiling Teenage Boy

Some of my most challenging yet rewarding experiences in life have been times spent working with and advocating for young people. From my days right out of college counselling kids in residential treatment facilities, foster care, adoptive homes, to more recently basketball and sports coaching. Although the environments have differed, working with those who have the biggest emotional, physical and financial needs, to those who seem to have it all; the bottom line is eerily similar or sometimes even the same. It takes a village!

Our young people have so much more on their plates than any generation before. The fact of the matter is that even though they are more advanced in some areas intellectually, they are still young, inexperienced and emotionally immature in most areas of life.

Age old issues like playground bullying and not having anyone to sit with at the lunch table have been upgraded to cyber bullying, adapting to virtual learning and needing to learn pandemic coping skills. All while still trying to navigate just being a kid. Let's face it, some of our young people are struggling right along with us adults.
